Wotton-Under-Edge retains many small, family run shops, of the sort which are now so rare in larger cities and town. There are many specialist shops, a fine range of food shops covering every need, a selection of pubs and other eating places, banks and other service facilities and Wotton's very own historic cinema, showing the latest films.
Wotton-Under-Edge has accommodation that embraces the complete housing spectrum. Ranging from 13th century cottages in the high street, to the modern houses at Shepherds Leaze on the edge of the town. Rental prices are at the upper end of the market in this area because of its excellent amenities.
For the sportsman
There are facilities in the area for many sports, including three golf courses, a bowling green, a joint sports centre at Katherine Lady Berkeley's School with squash and badminton, table tennis and tennis courts. An open air swimming pool is open during the summer months (solar heated!). Clay shoots are organised in the area and horse riding provided at various centres. Local teams play cricket, rugby and football regularly in season. For the more adventurous there is a well known gliding club not far away at Nympsfield. There are also well equipped play areas for children at Symn Lane and Synwell playing fields which are only a few minutes walk from the main street.The library is located at Ludgate Hill.
